Air operated double diaphragm (AODD) pump
Air operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps are used in facilities of all sizes and in a variety of different industries. From petrochemicals to food and beverages, these pumps are popular and versatile. Its unique design is ideal for transferring highly abrasive or viscous products, It has incomparable advantages over gear pump. But how do they work?
The AODD pump is a positive displacement pump that uses compressed air as a power source. Compressed air is transferred from one chamber to another through a link shaft, which moves these chambers simultaneously. This back and forth movement forces the liquid to leave one chamber and enter the discharge pipe, while the other chamber is simultaneously filled with liquid.
These pumps use reciprocating elastic diaphragms and check valves to pump fluid. The liquid chamber is filled and emptied with fluid drawn in through the common inlet and discharged through a single outlet.
Usually a ball or flap check valve is used, depending on the solids passage requirements in the application. These valves use the pressure difference in the pumped liquid to operate
The Air operated double diaphragm pumps has good suction lifting characteristics and can handle sludge or sludge with relatively high particle size and solid content. AODD pump can also handle high viscosity liquids
It is important to note that pneumatic diaphragm pumps usually have some pulsation in the discharge flow. By using a pulsation damper in the discharge pipe, this pulsation flow can be reduced to a certain extent.
