Stainless steel materials commonly used in SUS gear pumps
SS gear pump material selection can be divided into: 304, 316, 316L, polymer materials, PTFE, nylon and so on. The more suitable stainless steel gear pump can be selected according to the condition of the medium to be transported by the stainless steel gear pump.
Why is stainless steel corrosion resistant? All metals react with oxygen in the atmosphere to form an oxide film on the surface. Unfortunately, the iron oxide formed on ordinary carbon steel continues to oxidize, causing the corrosion to continue to expand and eventually forming holes. You can use paint or oxidation-resistant metals (such as zinc, nickel, and chromium) for electroplating to ensure the surface of carbon steel, but, as people know, this protection is only a thin film. If the protective layer is damaged, the steel below will begin to rust.
There are mainly two common situations:
1. When the stainless steel gear pump transports flammable and explosive media such as toluene, gasoline, diesel, ethanol, from the perspective of explosion protection, copper gears are generally used for gear pump gears. The main purpose is to prevent the gear pump from sparking during the transportation process. However, stainless steel gear pumps are considered from the perspective of anti-corrosion. In some cases, copper materials cannot be used or the medium conveyed in some cases has no lubricity, so the life of the gear pump will be reduced. After the technical improvement of our company, the new generation of stainless steel gear pump is specially designed for explosion-proof and non-lubricating medium. The gear adopts PTFE polymer material, which not only solves the explosion-proof performance of stainless steel gear pump, but also improves the gear resistance of stainless steel gear pump. The grinding life greatly improves the overall service life of the gear pump.
2. For stainless steel gear pumps to transport highly corrosive media, 316 and 316L stainless steel materials should be used.
